What's the Future of University Degrees?

With a rise in number of tech jobs that require constant innovation and upskilling, the requirement for university degrees in the tech industry job market has seen a decline. Degrees which used to be a signal for potential companies are gradually losing its relevant because of changing job market.

On multiple occasions, tech pioneers such as Elon Musk and Tim Cook have questioned the requirement of degrees when it is just as possible to obtain more industry knowledge through online platforms, in a much shorter span of time. Almost 50% of jobs at tech giants such as Google, Apple and IBM do not require employees with university degrees, and instead offer their employees to participate in short-term courses to expand on skills that are relevant to their jobs.

Whereas most traditional universities fall short in teaching the skills that business leaders require most throughout their workforce, EdTech platforms such as Upskill focus on professional skill development targeted at data science, digital marketing, tech business, coding, etc.
